Connect
Selecting a net does not transmit. View access permits listening; Edit permits speaking; Modify permits channel-plan management. Each net can further restrict who speaks.
- Open Radio in ORION Desktop for Windows. Your administrator grants Radio access in Policy Management.
- Open Settings → Audio and select your microphone and headphones.
- Open Controls, click the push-to-talk binding and press your key, mouse button or controller input. Save the binding.
- Choose Connect radio. Click a net to select it, then hold push-to-talk to speak. Release it to listen.
Choose your panels
Four panels are shown by default. The total limit is ten, including Guard, a manually tuned frequency and an accepted direct call. Listening to several nets does not send your voice to all of them.
- Open Panels and choose Personal, Organization or Network.
- Select the nets you want to monitor, then apply your selection.
- Click a panel to select its transmit net. Double-click it to adjust volume, left/right balance, processing and receive/transmit cues.
Personal and shared nets
Use My nets to create a personal net or join an available organization or network net. Invitations grant only the access set by that net’s owner. Owners choose one-speaker or full-duplex operation; both use push-to-talk.
Organization only excludes general network conversation. Your organization’s policy may require it. Public contact frequencies and Guard remain available.
Join a Dispatch case
Active Dispatch cases provide a protected case intercom for the requester, assigned dispatcher, incident commander and active responders. Open the case and choose Join in SR-7. Radio selects the case net; hold push-to-talk when you are ready to speak.
Radio access, the case classification and current assignment still apply. A requester can use their own case net without access to the Dispatch board; response-team access still requires Dispatch. Releasing a responder or completing the case removes that assignment at the next access refresh. The intercom uses a case channel rather than consuming a frequency slot.
Request help from the public page
Use orionos.app/distress to send HLN Dispatch an assistance request. UCI sign-in is optional. Requests without UCI start one priority level lower and are marked Non-UCI request. Dispatch can adjust priority; the reported emergency and threat level stay visible. Give the crew a usable in-game contact method and keep your tracking link.
Sign in before sending to link the request to your account. With Radio access, the tracking page offers a protected SR-7 case net. A typed handle does not grant access. In ORION Desktop, Open case radio takes you to that net without transmitting. If you cannot use SR-7, keep coordinating through the contact method in your report.
Use the standalone radio
SR-7 for Windows opens its own radio console. Sign in with UCI for basic public access through an HLN Corp public membership, or choose your existing ORION organization in Account & organization. Public membership provides Guard, the general network and channels opened to public members. It does not enroll you in HLN Group or grant access to protected organization channels.
Choose your organization’s audience
Radio administrators choose Organization access in Radio Settings. Public admits UCI-signed public members to the contact frequency and nets opened to the network. ORION members keeps those channels within ORION. Closed keeps internal communication private, with the contact frequency still available to ORION members and Guard available across the network. Protected channels keep their membership and assignment rules in every mode. Existing organizations start at ORION members.
Call through Yellowbook
Personal listings can be hidden. Organization contact frequencies stay listed. Public contact frequencies can be quiet if nobody from that organization is monitoring them.
- Open Directory. Expand an organization and choose Tune or Connect & tune beside its public frequency.
- For a direct call, connect Radio, choose People and call an available person. The recipient must accept.
- End the call to release its panel. Clear List me in the directory if you do not want to receive new directory calls.
Use another display
Second screen opens a separate SR-7 workspace. Choose Customize to arrange its app panels, Add widget for ORION instruments, Layouts to save a personal arrangement and Display to choose a monitor. Portrait and landscape arrangements save independently. The Second-screen workspace guide explains the editor. Overlay opens FIELDLINK. Choose Radio panel for SR-7 alone, Instrument panel to combine work instruments, or Bodycam HUD for corner readouts. All three use the same overlay window and existing radio session. Ctrl + Alt + I locks or unlocks FIELDLINK.
Choose Customize in FIELDLINK to adjust opacity, text size, color, panels and individual readouts. Preferences save on this computer. Use borderless windowed mode if exclusive full screen covers the overlay.
If you cannot hear or speak
Browser and Linux clients can manage channel plans but do not provide live voice. Update the Windows desktop app if its radio controls are unavailable.
- Check that Radio says Connected and the intended net is selected.
- Check mute, deafen, each panel’s receive switch and its volume.
- Check Audio devices and Controls. A listen-only panel cannot transmit.
- If Radio is open in another organization, leave it there first. If it is on another activity, use Switch to this radio.
- For a device or connection error, reconnect Radio and read the message shown above the console.
